Laval University's Rouge et Or crushed the University of Montreal Carabins 35-3 at CEPSUM in Montreal on Saturday, October 31, ending a winless run at their rivals' home field dating back to September 2018 — and ending the Carabins' eight-year home unbeaten streak against the Rouge et Or. According to the Journal de Montréal, the packed CEPSUM stands gradually emptied as the fourth quarter wore on, with the Rouge et Or in control in every phase: offence, defence and special teams.
Defence allows 153 yards and no touchdowns; four players score
The Rouge et Or defence held the Carabins to just 153 total yards and no touchdowns — in the teams' first meeting this season, Laval had conceded 34 points. Carabins quarterback Esteban Bedoya completed 14 of 25 passes for 114 yards; Montreal's only points came from a 31-yard field goal by kicker Étienne Jacques, who made one of his two attempts. On offence, Laval quarterback Victor Charland went 19 of 30 for 231 yards, four players scored — three rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown, with Mathieu Roy and Charland himself each scoring on the ground — and a blocked Carabins punt early in the second quarter proved a turning point.
8-0 undefeated season, home-field advantage in the playoffs, Vanier Cup on November 28
The win sealed an 8-0 regular season for the Rouge et Or, undefeated for the first time since 2018, and secured the RSEQ's top spot and home-field advantage in the playoffs. Head coach Glen Constantin urged his team to stay humble and get back to work the very next day. The RSEQ playoffs begin next week, with the Vanier Cup final set for November 28 at TELUS-Université Laval Stadium in Quebec City.
