New York Orders Flags at Half-Staff, Landmarks Lit Yellow to Mark Two Years Since October 7 Attack

New York Governor Kathy Hochul directed flags on state buildings to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, and more than a dozen landmarks — including 1WTC, Empire State Plaza and Niagara Falls — to be illuminated in yellow in remembrance of the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.

Governor Kathy Hochul directed flags on state buildings to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, October 7, in remembrance of the victims of the Hamas attack on Israel two years ago.
More than a dozen landmarks will be illuminated in yellow in solidarity with Israel and the 48 remaining hostages who have not been returned home, including 1WTC, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, the Kosciuszko Bridge, Empire State Plaza, Niagara Falls, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge, the Grand Central Terminal – Pershing Square Viaduct and the MTA LIRR East End Gateway at Penn Station.
In a statement, Hochul said: "As the home of the largest Jewish population outside of Israel, we mourn this tragedy and continue to pray for the safe return of the remaining hostages, an end to the war, and a lasting peace."
She added that New York will do everything in its power to defend against the forces of hatred. State Police have been directed to heighten security around critical infrastructure, synagogues, yeshivas, mosques and community centers.
