Lincoln Market, the Brooklyn grocery chain, opened its new Hell's Kitchen store at River Place at noon on November 5. At about 35,800 square feet, it is the chain's largest store yet and among Manhattan's biggest street-level supermarkets, ending nearly two years of waiting for Far West Side residents.

Hell's Kitchen residents got the large supermarket they have waited nearly two years for today. Lincoln Market, the Brooklyn grocery chain, opened its new store at 660 West 42nd Street, in the River Place building, at noon on November 5. At about 35,800 square feet, it is the chain's largest store yet, offering fresh produce, seafood, specialty groceries and a food court.

Replaces the Lucky Strike bowling alley on a 20-year lease

The store sits at the base of Silverstein Properties' 40-storey, 921-unit River Place tower, replacing the Lucky Strike bowling and entertainment venue, which opened in 2008 and closed in 2021. Lincoln Market signed a 20-year lease for the space. It is the chain's ninth location in New York City and its third in Manhattan. Brokers have called it among the largest street-level grocery stores in Manhattan.

One shopper got a head start before the opening

Local outlet W42ST reported that on Wednesday afternoon, a shopper wandered into the store early, grabbed a cart and picked up a few groceries before the operations manager realized what was happening. The chain opened its first store in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, in 2017 and has since expanded across Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn.
