New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani cast his ballot at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan on October 24, the first day of early voting. Early voting runs from October 24 through November 1, with Election Day on November 3.
Five ballot proposals
The city's ballot carries five charter proposals covering public space, city contracting, street safety, city property and office space, building permits, and financial reserves. According to the Mayor's Office, the proposals aim to simplify processes and speed up approvals, such as making outdoor dining and accessible ramp applications easier, cutting contractor paperwork, fast-tracking street safety projects, and bringing scattered building approvals into one place.
After voting, Mamdani told reporters he would not tell New Yorkers how to vote, but that as a New Yorker he was proud to have voted yes on all five proposals. He also campaigned for Governor Kathy Hochul's re-election; the governor and lieutenant governor races are also on this year's ballot.
Voting schedule
Voters can cast ballots at designated early voting sites from October 24 to November 1, or on Election Day, November 3, if they do not vote early. The city advises voters to check their poll site and sample ballot before heading out, to confirm the races and proposals on their ballot.
