The 2026 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree — a roughly 75-year-old, 76-foot Norway spruce — was cut down on Thursday (November 5) in West Edmeston, upstate New York, and arrives in Manhattan's Rockefeller Plaza today (Saturday). The lighting ceremony is set for December 2, with more than 50,000 lights and a 900-pound Swarovski crystal star.
One of New York's best-loved Christmas traditions begins today: the 2026 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree arrives in Manhattan's Rockefeller Plaza on Saturday (November 7). The roughly 75-year-old, 76-foot Norway spruce was cut down on Thursday (November 5) in West Edmeston, upstate New York, and trucked about 200 miles to Midtown, where it will overlook the Center's famous ice-skating rink.

A 76-foot spruce weighing about 11 tons
According to the Associated Press, the tree weighs about 11 tons; a crane lifted it onto a flatbed truck at the cutting ceremony. Once raised in Rockefeller Plaza, it will be decorated with more than 50,000 multicoloured LED lights and topped with a 900-pound Swarovski crystal star.
Lighting ceremony on December 2
The official tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, December 2, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., marking the start of the holiday season at Rockefeller Center. The tree will remain on display until January 9, 2027. Today's arrival also features family activities as part of the second Meet the Tree Day.
