Full report
The New York Yankees committed four errors in a 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 2 of the American League Division Series on Monday night at Tropicana Field, falling into a 2-0 hole in the best-of-five series.
Three of the errors came in a nightmare first inning — the first time in franchise history the Yankees have committed three errors in a single postseason inning. Third baseman Ryan McMahon, second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. and catcher Austin Wells (catcher's interference) were all charged in the opening frame; George Lombard Jr. added a fourth error in the fifth.
The Yankees' only runs came on a pair of solo home runs by Ben Rice. Manager Aaron Boone called it "a really rough night" and said: "You've got to find out what you're made of. It's gut check time." Game 3 is Wednesday at Yankee Stadium, with Max Fried starting for New York. The Rays took Game 1 by a 1-0 score on Saturday.
