· N GLOBE

The Met's Krasner and Pollock: Past Continuous opens October 4, 2026, the first major New York presentation devoted to either artist in more than 20 years, with over 120 works through January 31, 2027.

Why it matters

Krasner and Pollock: Past Continuous opens to the public today, October 4, 2026, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Fifth Avenue building and runs through January 31, 2027. It is the first major New York presentation devoted to either artist in more than 20 years, and the first ever at the Met. The exhibition charts the full careers of Lee Krasner (1908-1984) and Jackson Pollock (1912-1956) in parallel, with more than 120 works from over 80 lenders in the United States and abroad, on view in Gallery 899 of the Tisch Galleries.

Full report

Krasner and Pollock met in 1942 as emerging New York artists, married in 1945, and moved to Springs, Long Island, remaining intertwined personally and artistically until Pollock's death in 1956. The exhibition foregrounds the range and art-historical significance of Krasner's work while offering a sustained examination of Pollock's practice. The subtitle Past Continuous is drawn from a 1976 Krasner painting.

The show is curated by David Breslin, the Leonard A. Lauder Curator in Charge of Modern and Contemporary Art, and associate curator Brinda Kumar, and was announced by the museum in February 2026.
