NVIDIA broadens open-model portfolio across AI, robotics, biology and quantum

· N GLOBE

In an Oct. 21 blog post, NVIDIA expanded its open-model lineup with Nemotron 3.5, Kumo, Cosmos 3.5, Alpamayo 2 Edge, BioNeMo RFD4-Proteina and the Ising family for quantum computing, demonstrating automated quantum-chip calibration on IQM hardware and releasing the QCalEval benchmark.

Why it matters

NVIDIA is extending open models beyond language models into a full stack covering robotics, biology and quantum computing, with models designed to be customized with local data and run on infrastructure customers control. Manual calibration of quantum processors is a major bottleneck to scaling hardware, and automating it is seen as a key step toward production-grade quantum systems.

Full report

In a blog post on Wednesday, Oct. 21, NVIDIA said it is expanding its open-model portfolio with Nemotron 3.5 Super VL and Bolt, Nemotron Retriever models for embedding, reranking and document parsing, the Kumo family and Kumo Engine library for structured business data, Cosmos 3.5 world models for robotics and autonomous vehicles, Alpamayo 2 Edge for real-time in-vehicle reasoning, BioNeMo RFD4-Proteina for protein design, and the Ising family for quantum computing.

Quantum computing is one of the highlights of the update. NVIDIA said the Ising family is intended to support calibration and error correction across qubit modalities: IQM Quantum Computers is using Ising to calibrate processors, SEEQC is combining NVQLink and Ising, and AWS is integrating Ising into AWS Parallel Computing Service.

NVIDIA also demonstrated the Ising Calibration model in action: it interprets quantum calibration charts, decides tuning steps on its own, and explains its reasoning in plain English. The accompanying QCalEval benchmark includes 243 charts across 22 calibration experiments, 57 of them from real hardware. The demonstration calibrated 20 qubits on IQM quantum chips and runs on workstation-class hardware such as the NVIDIA DGX Station.

According to NVIDIA, Nemotron Retriever, Kumo, Cosmos, BioNeMo RFD4-Proteina and Ising are available through a mix of Hugging Face, GitHub, build.nvidia.com and partner platforms; Nemotron 3.5 Bolt E4B 4GB is expected on Friday, Oct. 23, and Alpamayo 2 Edge will arrive later this month.
