Ottawa's Alexandra Bridge closes to motorists this weekend for repairs

· N GLOBE

Public Services and Procurement Canada says the Alexandra Bridge will be closed to motorists from 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct 24 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct 25 for maintenance, while the boardwalk stays open to pedestrians and cyclists.

Why it matters

The Alexandra Bridge links Ottawa and Gatineau. Drivers crossing the river this weekend will need another route, while people on foot or by bike can still cross.

Full report

Public Services and Procurement Canada has issued a public notice that the Alexandra Bridge will be closed to motorists for maintenance during the following periods: from Saturday, Oct 24 at 6 a.m. to Sunday, Oct 25 at 7 p.m.; and again on the following two weekends, Oct 31 to Nov 1 and Nov 7 to Nov 8.

During these periods, the boardwalk will remain accessible to pedestrians and cyclists. The planned maintenance includes welding repairs on the steel grating of the Gatineau-bound lane. The department says the bridge is at the end of its service life, so regular interventions are necessary to ensure its continued safety until it is replaced.

The schedule may change depending on weather conditions, and the department encourages everyone to use caution when travelling through the area.
