Ottawa Mayoral Race Tightens: Poll Has Sutcliffe at 42%, Leiper at 35%

· N GLOBE

An independent Quorus poll shows Ottawa's mayoral race much closer than the incumbent's internal polling claims: Mark Sutcliffe 42%, Jeff Leiper 35% among all voters. Advance votes hit 86,592, up 8.9% from 2022. Election day is Monday, Oct 26.

Why it matters

With a week to go before Ottawa's municipal election, an independent poll suggests the mayoral race is far tighter than the incumbent's camp has claimed. Quorus, polling through the Leger panel with 807 Ottawa residents surveyed October 8–15, found incumbent Mark Sutcliffe at 42% and challenger Jeff Leiper at 35% among all voters — a gap of just seven points. Saravanamuttoo and Lawson polled 10% and 7% respectively. The Sutcliffe camp's internal Abacus poll had put him ahead by 50%. Voting day is Monday, October 26.

Details

Advance voting is running ahead of 2022: 86,592 ballots were cast October 1–4 and on October 16, up 8.9% from 79,491 in the same period last time. A caveat: Quorus used non-probability sampling, so no margin of error can be calculated; treat the numbers as indicative.
