Ottawa's Eastern O-Train Extension Testing Delayed to November Over Software Flaw

· N GLOBE

OC Transpo says a critical software flaw has pushed the eastern extension's pre-trial running from early October to November. The Line 1 extension adds five stations east of Blair Station.

Why it matters

The eastern extension is one of Ottawa's most anticipated transit projects: it takes Line 1 east from Blair Station to five additional stops in the east end, serving Orléans commuters who have waited through repeated delays. Pushing pre-trial running into November resets the countdown to any opening date.

Full report

OC Transpo confirmed Friday that pre-trial running on the O-Train's eastern extension will no longer begin in early October as previously planned. Transit general manager Rick Leary informed city council in a memo that a critical software flaw with the trains forced the delay.

The agency did not say how long the delay will last or offer a revised schedule for the next testing stage. Fuller details on the cause of the software issues have not been independently confirmed.

CTV News Ottawa reports the testing timeline has shifted to November. Once testing formally begins, officials estimate at least five weeks of trial running and final documentation will be required before the extension can carry passengers.

No target opening date for the extension has been announced. The project extends Line 1 from Blair Station eastward, adding five new stations.
