Ottawa O-Train east extension testing pushed to November by software flaw

· N GLOBE

OC Transpo head Rick Leary told council Friday that a critical software flaw has pushed pre-trial running on the Line 1 east extension from early October to November.

Why it matters

The east-end extension is the largest piece of Ottawa's Stage 2 rail expansion. Every delay pushes back the date when Orléans-area commuters can ride, and the testing phase alone must run for weeks before the city can even consider opening.

Full report

Pre-trial running on Ottawa's O-Train East Extension will not start in early October as planned and has been pushed to November, OC Transpo head Rick Leary told city council in a memo Friday.

According to CTV News Ottawa, a critical software flaw with the trains forced the shift in the testing timeline for the Line 1 extension, which runs from Blair Station to five additional stops in the city's east end.

Officials have not announced a target opening date. CTV reports that once testing does begin, testing and final documentation will require at least five weeks.

Local outlet ottown.ca, citing CBC News, reported Friday that OC Transpo attributed the delay to software problems but did not say how long the setback would last or when the next testing stage might begin.
