Ottawa police have released the results of targeted traffic patrols on the evenings of Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24: 65 charges in total, including 55 tickets and 10 summonses requiring court appearances, with speeding accounting for 37 tickets. The results were released by police on October 28 and reported by The Northern Current on the evening of October 29; a CityNews report on the same operation matches the counts, locations and ages.

Five stunt-driving cases

The most serious case involved a 19-year-old allegedly driving 135 km/h in a 60 km/h zone near Riverside Drive and Hunt Club Road, more than double the limit. An 18-year-old G2 driver was allegedly caught at 108 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on the same corridor, and a 21-year-old at 126 km/h in a 70 km/h zone on Bronson Avenue near Riverside Drive. The other two cases were 104 km/h in a 60 km/h zone and 111 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Bank Street. Under Ontario stunt-driving rules, drivers charged face an immediate 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment.

Other charges and the police reminder

Beyond speeding and stunt driving, the operation produced one distracted-driving charge, one failure-to-yield charge and two traffic-signal charges, plus licensing, documentation and vehicle-safety offences. Police reminded drivers that excessive speed significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death in a collision and leaves less time to react to changing road conditions. The figures describe enforcement activity, not convictions; the allegations remain subject to the court process.
