Ottawa Redblacks fall to 0-15, set CFL record for losses to open a season

The Ottawa Redblacks lost 34-16 to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday night, dropping to 0-15 and setting a new Canadian Football League record for consecutive losses to begin a season.
Why it matters
Ottawa's winless 2026 season hit a new low Friday night. The 34-16 home loss to Hamilton dropped the Redblacks to 0-15, breaking the CFL record for losses to start a season previously held by the 1994 Shreveport Pirates.
How it happened
Ottawa led 16-13 at halftime, but Hamilton scored 21 unanswered points in the second half. Ticats all-star receiver Kenny Lawler caught the go-ahead touchdown late in the third quarter and added his 400th career reception for another score early in the fourth. Redblacks quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson went 17-for-31 for 208 yards before being strip-sacked by Mitchell Agude on the final comeback attempt.
The bigger picture
Ottawa has now lost 21 straight games dating back to last September — the second-longest skid in Canadian football history, behind only the 25-game streak by the Ottawa Senators/Rough Riders franchise from 1928 to 1932. With three games left, the Redblacks can still avoid becoming the first team in modern CFL history (since 1958) to go winless; the last winless Canadian team was the 1949 Hamilton Wildcats (0-12). Head coach Ryan Dinwiddie apologized to fans after the game, saying he hasn't done a good enough job.
