The Senators won 4-1 in Boston for a 2-0-0 start, but starting goalie Linus Ullmark left after the second period following a collision; coach Travis Green called the move precautionary.

Why it matters

The Ottawa Senators beat the Boston Bruins 4-1 at TD Garden on Monday (Oct. 6) to open the season 2-0-0. But the win came with a scare: starting goaltender Linus Ullmark left the game after a second-period collision, with the team already missing top defenceman Jake Sanderson.

Full report

Tim Stützle scored twice and added an assist in the first period, while Drake Batherson and Michael Amadio (one goal, one assist each) also scored. Ottawa led 4-0 after two periods; Boston's only goal came from James Hagens in the third.

Ullmark was slow to get up after Bruins forward J.J. Peterka — shoved by Ottawa's William Eklund — crashed into him with about 4:24 left in the second. He finished the period without allowing a goal but did not return for the third, with backup Samuel Ersson taking over. Head coach Travis Green said afterward the move was "precautionary," and Ullmark is considered day-to-day.

The Senators lost Sanderson to injury in their 3-2 season-opening win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ottawa visits the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night, with the goaltending situation now the storyline to watch.
