Ottawa Senators Fans Celebrate Chabot Named 11th Captain

Defenceman Thomas Chabot, 29, was named the 11th captain in Senators history on September 29, succeeding Brady Tkachuk. Fans celebrated as he wore the "C" for the first time in Saturday's season opener against Toronto.
Why it matters
After a summer without a captain, Ottawa's NHL club has a new on-ice leader — and a local hero. Chabot, the longest-tenured Senator, was the clear choice for management, and fans welcomed him wearing the "C" for the first time in Saturday's season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Ottawa Senators named defenceman Thomas Chabot the 11th captain in franchise history on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The 29-year-old from Sainte-Marie, Quebec, succeeds Brady Tkachuk, who was traded to the Florida Panthers on June 21 following his own trade request. Tkachuk had worn the "C" since November 5, 2021.
Chabot, selected 18th overall in the 2015 NHL Draft, is the longest-serving active Senator. General manager Steve Staios said: "Thomas exemplifies everything we want in an Ottawa Senator. He's committed to the city and to the organization." Forwards Claude Giroux and Tim Stutzle and defenceman Jake Sanderson will serve as alternate captains.
"Ottawa feels like home. We bought our first house here. We started our family here," Chabot said. In 569 career games with Ottawa he has recorded 78 goals and 257 assists. Last season he put up 31 points in 57 games while averaging 22:35 of ice time per night.
