Air Canada and United Airlines announced on Oct. 16 a batch of new Canada–U.S. non-stop routes for summer 2027, including new United service from Denver to Ottawa and Québec City; the Ottawa airport authority says Denver will become United's fourth destination from YOW.

Why it matters

Air Canada and United Airlines jointly announced on Friday, Oct. 16, a batch of new Canada–U.S. non-stop routes for summer 2027, including new United service from Denver to Ottawa and Denver to Québec City. It will be Ottawa's first scheduled non-stop link to the Rocky Mountain hub of Denver, giving travellers one more U.S. destination reachable without a connection.

What it means for Ottawa

Joel Tkach, Vice President of Business Development and Marketing at the Ottawa International Airport Authority, said Denver will become United's fourth destination from Ottawa (YOW), strengthening the carrier's presence in the capital and improving access to major U.S. hubs. No start date, schedule, aircraft type or fares have been announced for the Ottawa–Denver route — only that it will operate in summer 2027.

The wider expansion

The same announcement includes United's seasonal Newark–St. John's service (returning after more than a decade), more flights between Washington, D.C. and Québec City, and a 65% increase in daily seats between Denver and Winnipeg; Air Canada adds Toronto–Louisville, Montréal–Indianapolis and Edmonton–Newark (from June 1, 2027), and upgrades Edmonton–San Francisco to the Airbus A220. Since their Transborder Joint Business Agreement was established in 2022, the two carriers have created 20 new routes and flown more than 4.3 million passengers jointly; the expanded agreement remains subject to regulatory approval.
