European Collective Housing Award: Two Paris Projects Win Top Honors

· N GLOBE

“La Métropolitaine” takes best new construction and a former garage conversion wins the renovation award in the 2nd European Collective Housing Award.

Why it matters

The winners of the 2nd European Collective Housing Award have been announced — and both prizes went to Paris. Organised by the Basque Architecture Institute and Bordeaux's arc en rêve, this edition drew finalists from 36 countries, with the jury framing quality collective housing as the answer to Europe's housing crisis and a vehicle for social diversity and inclusion.

Details

Best new construction is “La Métropolitaine” in Paris, by Ignacio Prego Architectures and Thibaud Babled: one structure combining social housing, affordable student accommodation and public and community facilities, built over transport infrastructure next to one of Paris's most exclusive areas.

The renovation award goes to the conversion of a former garage in Paris by Atelier Téqui Architectes, turning a disused garage into collective housing.

ArchDaily featured both winning projects on Oct 23.
