Paris faces a third night of curfews as four key metro and RER stations close from 10 p.m.

RATP announced it will shut République, Châtelet, Les Halles and Châtelet–Les Halles stations from 10 p.m. on Wednesday Oct. 21 at the request of the Paris police prefecture, with trains passing through and connections suspended — ahead of a third night of targeted curfews.

Why it matters

It's the third night of curfews, but tonight's commute will hurt the most: four of Paris's most critical interchange hubs close at once, the RER B is partly disrupted, and even passengers just passing through the capital will need a detour. If you're out tonight, replan now.

Full report

RATP announced that, at the request of the Paris Police Prefecture, the following stations close from 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21: Châtelet (metro lines 1, 4, 7, 11 and 14), Les Halles (line 4), République (lines 3, 5, 9 and 11; line 8 already skips the station due to works), and Châtelet–Les Halles (RER A, B and D). Trains will pass through without stopping and connections are not guaranteed. RATP also reported a disruption on Line 11 between Hôtel de Ville and Châtelet from 10 p.m.

Paris is entering its third consecutive night of restrictions: curfews around Place de la République and the Les Halles shopping district run from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., and Paris police said they would stay in place "for as long as necessary." Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu told the National Assembly on Oct. 20 that the targeted measures had helped keep the previous night calm, while warning that the security deployment for fresh protests on Saturday would be "massive."

Lyon renewed its downtown curfew (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.) and Marseille imposed one for unaccompanied minors. Student unions and groups linked to the yellow-vest movement have called for another day of protests Saturday; soldiers from the Sentinelle anti-terrorism operation will guard sensitive sites so more police officers and gendarmes can handle crowd control.
