Why it matters

The 93rd Fête des Vendanges de Montmartre wrapped up on Sunday, October 11. Held under the theme "The 18th Arrondissement Leads the Beat," the five-day festival is the third-largest event organized by the City of Paris and was expected to draw about 1.5 million visitors.

Full report

Held every October since 1934, the festival celebrates the harvest of the Clos Montmartre, one of Paris's last remaining vineyards. For five days, the entire 18th arrondissement becomes an open-air stage of free concerts, choirs, dances, street performances and food markets.

Signature highlights included the Ban des Vendanges (Harvest Proclamation), the Grand Défilé parade of brotherhoods on October 10, the Taste Trail of regional producers at the foot of the Sacré-Cœur, a night run, and the closing ball at Square Louise Michel on October 11.

Music was this year's unifying thread: schoolchildren from the 18th sang hits by Goldman, Jonasz, France Gall and Stromae at Square Louise Michel, while an exhibition at Dalí Paris explored the painter's visual rhythm.
