Why it matters
European automakers are answering cheap Chinese rivals head-on. Stellantis is turning France's beloved 2CV into a European-built affordable EV with a target price of €15,000 — if it reaches production on schedule, it would be the most talked-about entry-level EV Europe has seen in years.

The Paris Motor Show (Mondial de l'Auto) runs October 12–18 at the Parc des Expositions de la Porte de Versailles. On its eve, Sunday October 11, Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa unveiled six of nine concept cars at a gala event, headlined by an electric concept reviving Citroën's iconic 2CV: a European-made low-cost EV targeting about €15,000, expected to reach production in 2028 as the first model of Stellantis's new entry-level "E-Car" category.
Production is reportedly planned at Stellantis's Pomigliano d'Arco plant in Italy. 2028 will mark the 80th anniversary of the original 2CV's debut at the 1948 Paris Motor Show — a deliberate nod. At the pre-show "For Europe" event, Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume also addressed the industry, with French industry minister Sébastien Martin in attendance, as defending Europe's home market sets the tone for this year's show.
The "about €15,000" figure cited by media is a target price not yet finalised; several French auto outlets call the electric 2CV concept the show's biggest attraction.
