The "Acte III" (Act III) student demonstrations took place across France on Tuesday, Oct. 6. In Paris, the main march set off from Place de la République at around 2:30 p.m., proceeding along Boulevard Voltaire to Place de la Nation; clashes between demonstrators and police broke out at the tail end of the march, according to franceinfo's evening report.

Turnout figures differ sharply by source: youth unions put participation at 450,000 nationwide and 100,000 in Paris, while the Interior Ministry recorded 256,000 nationwide and 56,000 in Paris. The Education Ministry said courses were partially or fully suspended at 891 of the country's 3,700 lycées. Paris transit operator RATP confirmed six metro stations closed from 10 a.m. along the route (Charonne, Oberkampf, Richard-Lenoir, Rue des Boulets, Saint-Ambroise and Voltaire), a closure also confirmed by the City of Paris.
