AnimaWings suspends all flights until October 24 after insolvency filing

Romanian carrier AnimaWings announced on October 1 that it will suspend all flights from October 2 through October 24, 2026, and plans to resume operations on October 25 under a simplified schedule. The suspension follows its filing for insolvency proceedings (judicial reorganisation) with the Bucharest Court on September 30, aimed at restructuring its financial obligations while continuing to trade.

The airline blames recurring technical problems with its six Airbus A220-300 aircraft, powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engines. Two of the newest jets, delivered in March and April 2026, were ferried to Toulouse on September 30 and parked; only two older Airbus A320s remain available to the company. AnimaWings denies its grounding was imposed by lessors, saying the decision was taken internally.

The route freeze covers a wide network: from Bucharest to Cluj-Napoca, Geneva, Iasi, Istanbul, Larnaca, London Gatwick, Munich, Nice, Oradea, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Prague, Rotterdam, Sharm el Sheikh, Stockholm Arlanda and Tel Aviv, plus Cluj-Napoca services to Athens, Frankfurt, Sharm el Sheikh and Vienna, according to schedule data.

AnimaWings says cancellation emails are being sent in travel-date order and refunds processed under the applicable legal framework. The carrier's collapse has been rapid: CEO Marius Pandel told Hotnews.ro in an interview on September 28 that the airline had no plans to stop; two days later it filed for insolvency. Romanian outlet HotNews reports nearly 3,000 court cases over delayed or cancelled AnimaWings flights were registered in September alone.
