São Paulo approves R$1.3 billion Água Branca mega rail hub, targeting 2031

Brazil's federal government authorized São Paulo state to use a 25,000 m² federal lot in Água Branca for a mega station integrating metro, commuter trains and intercity rail, with investment of about R$1.3 billion.
Why it matters
It will become one of the most important rail hubs in São Paulo's west side, consolidating currently scattered metro and commuter-rail stations into a single complex and easing transfer bottlenecks in the western corridor.
The project
Under federal Decree 70.901, the federal government authorized São Paulo state to use a 25,147.89 m² federal lot in Água Branca (the former federal railway yard), on a 20-year lease renewable for another 20. The project will be executed by concessionaire TIC Trens, with investment of about R$1.3 billion and the main structure expected by 2031.
Future connections
The future station will integrate Metro Line 3-Red and Line 6-Orange with commuter-rail lines 7-Ruby, 8-Diamond and 9-Emerald, plus the Trem Intercidades intercity services to Campinas and Sorocaba.
