São Paulo Adds R$ 20.24 Million for Bilhete Único Ticketing and Traffic-Light Modernization

São Paulo's Diário Oficial published two budget supplements on Thursday: R$ 8.38M for Bilhete Único ticketing offices and R$ 11.86M for traffic-light modernization, totalling about R$ 20.24M.
Why it matters
The formally published budget supplements affect the Bilhete Único ticketing system used by millions of riders daily and the city's traffic-signal network. The funds come from excess tax revenue; fares are unchanged.
Full report
São Paulo's Diário Oficial (official gazette) published municipal decrees on Thursday, October 8, adding two budget supplements: R$ 8,378,451.64 for the maintenance and operation of Bilhete Único ticketing offices and service points, and R$ 11.86 million for spending under the traffic-signal modernization public-private partnership (PPP). The two total R$ 20,235,350.00.
The city made clear these are budget-ceiling supplements funded by excess tax collection — not cash already disbursed — with no fare changes, no new service points, and no new intersection projects.
