São Paulo municipal parks stay open for national holiday; free Children's Day activities from Oct 10

Oct 12 is Brazil's national holiday (Our Lady of Aparecida, also Children's Day). São Paulo's city government announced municipal parks will keep normal hours; from Oct 10–18 parks across the city offer free Children's Day activities themed on biodiversity, recycling and plant conservation.

Monday, Oct 12 is Brazil's national holiday — Our Lady of Aparecida (Nossa Senhora Aparecida) — which also coincides with Children's Day. São Paulo's Municipal Secretariat for Green Areas and the Environment (SVMA) announced on Oct 6 and again on Oct 8 that municipal parks will remain open during the holiday with normal hours.
From Oct 10 to 18, parks across the city will host free Children's Day activities including environmental education, seed balls, birdwatching, nature frames and toys made from recycled materials, themed on biodiversity, recycling and plant conservation; the municipal planetarium also has special programming.
Participating parks span all districts, including Parque Maria Cristina Hellmeister de Abreu (Oct 11–17), Parque Biacica (Oct 12–18), Parque Jacuí (Oct 10–12), Parque Ecológico do Tietê (Oct 12–18), Parque do Belém Manoel Pitta, Parque Ecológico do Guarapiranga (Oct 10–18) and Parque da Juventude Dom Paulo Evaristo Arns (Oct 12–18). All activities are free, and the city encourages families to visit.
