Singapore pilots government-run dating app FirstDate for civil servants; sign-ups close Oct. 5

GovTech launched the pilot dating platform FirstDate on Sept. 29 for unmarried civil servants aged 21–35, using Singpass verification and a stable-marriage matching algorithm that suggests one match per round. Applications close Oct. 5, against a record-low fertility rate of 0.87 in 2025.
Why it matters
A government tech agency running its own matchmaking service — the backdrop is Singapore's record-low fertility: a resident total fertility rate of just 0.87 in 2025, with about 27,500 resident births, down 11% year on year.
How it works
GovTech launched the pilot on Sept. 29 (born out of the agency's annual hackathon) for unmarried public officers aged 21–35, including the widowed and divorced. Applications close Oct. 5; the pilot is currently limited to civil servants, with no decision yet on opening it to the public. The mechanism: Singpass digital-identity verification plus a questionnaire on interests, habits and values; the Gale-Shapley stable-marriage algorithm recommends one match per round, both sides have 72 hours to accept, and contact details are exchanged only after a mutual match. It also suggests "date quest" first-date activities.
