A Grab driverless shuttle in Punggol, Singapore, nearly hit a young girl crossing the road as it turned left on November 5; the Land Transport Authority confirmed on November 6 that it is investigating and has told Grab to pause testing at similar junctions until the investigation is complete. No one was hurt.

Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) confirmed on November 6 that it is investigating an incident in which a Grab driverless shuttle in Punggol nearly hit a young girl, and has told Grab to pause testing at similar junctions until the investigation is complete. No one was hurt.

Near-miss on a left turn; dashcam footage posted online

The incident happened at about 8:11 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, at a junction on Punggol Field Walk. A Grab autonomous shuttle turning left nearly hit a girl crossing the road, who was accompanied by an adult woman. Dashcam footage from the vehicle was posted on social media by SG Road Vigilante, drawing attention to the incident.

Pause limited to similar junctions, not the whole service

The LTA said the pause applies only to testing at similar junctions, not to Grab's entire driverless service, and that it will review whether autonomous vehicles' handling of such scenarios needs to change. The vehicle involved was testing a new route as Grab prepares to expand its on-demand service in Punggol. Grab said it is reviewing the incident with the LTA and its technology partner WeRide, and that safety is its top priority.

Punggol driverless shuttle has run public trials since April

The Punggol driverless shuttle service began public trials on April 1, 2026, and Grab now operates two fixed routes — the first driverless service in Southeast Asia from a ride-hailing provider. The incident has put the service's safety review back in focus.
