Singapore starts second free haze mask giveaway Friday; eligibility age lowered to 60

Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu announced on Oct 22 that a second round of free haze mask distribution begins Friday, Oct 23, with the senior eligibility age lowered from 67 to 60.
Why it matters
Singapore's air quality sat in the unhealthy range for 18 days, and N95 masks sold out in stores; widening eligibility and handing out two more masks is the government's standing response to protect vulnerable groups during haze season. Air quality improved back to the good-to-moderate range on Oct 22, but authorities are proceeding with the second round as planned.

Eligible seniors can collect two free masks from community clubs (CCs) or dedicated vending machines across the island; those who collected in the first round can collect two more.
The Straits Times and CNA report the exercise is part of a series of protective measures amid transboundary haze concerns; residents are advised to cut outdoor activities during hazy periods, with vulnerable groups taking precautions.
