Why it matters
The National Museum of Singapore reopens its flagship Singapore History Gallery today, presenting a fresh, people-centred narrative on the formation and evolution of a Singaporean identity. The reopening marks the completion of the museum's three-year restoration and opens its 139th anniversary celebrations.
What to see
The revamped gallery takes visitors through more than 700 years of history, with thoughtfully presented artefacts and narratives elevated by immersive, interactive multimedia spaces.
The reopening anchors the museum's 139th Anniversary Celebrations, "Stories of Everyday," running from October 10 to 18, and debuts Stoney, the museum's new mascot inspired by the storied Singapore Stone.
The museum said the reopening completes its three-year restoration; the phased revamp of its other permanent galleries continues and is slated for completion in early 2027.
"The reopening of the Singapore History Gallery is a milestone that carries deep meaning for us," said Chung May Khuen, Director of the National Museum of Singapore, adding that Singapore's story "belongs to everyone who has lived it."
