Singapore and Malaysia announced in a joint statement on Friday, November 6, that the licensed cross-border taxi quota will rise from 300 to 500 per country from November 16, taking the combined total from 600 to 1,000 vehicles, an increase of about 67 percent.
Two new booking platforms join
Singapore's CDG Zig and Malaysia's Kumpool have been licensed and will join GrabCar as licensed cross-border taxi booking platforms, bringing the total to three. Passengers will be able to book cross-border taxi services between Singapore and Johor, Malaysia, through more platforms.
Second expansion in six months
The previous expansion took place on May 4, 2026, when the quota rose from 200 to 300 per country. Ng Lang, chief executive of Singapore's Land Transport Authority, said the latest expansion reflects the two countries' long-term transport cooperation and responds to growing cross-border travel demand.
