Three foreign men jailed over S$644,700 Singapore burglaries

Three foreign nationals who burgled a Dunearn Close landed home in May 2025, stealing valuables worth S$644,700, were sentenced on Oct 22 to between six years eight months and seven years four months in jail.
Why it matters
Landed homes in Singapore have increasingly been targeted by foreign burglary groups. The trio came to Singapore specifically to scout and strike, and were caught within 27 hours; the heavy sentences signal zero tolerance for organised housebreaking.
Full report
The crime took place on the night of 9 May 2025: Hernando Giraldo Franco, 62, a Spanish-Colombian national, kept watch outside while Garcia Iglesias Hector Daniel, 53, a Mexican national, and Garces Murillo Mateo Andres, 49, a Mexican-Colombian national, climbed through a window into a landed home at Dunearn Close, making off with about S$644,700 (about US$505,000) in valuables and cash. The next night they broke into a home on Eng Neo Avenue but stole nothing.
Police arrested all three on 11 May 2025, within 27 hours of the first reported case, identifying them through ground enquiries, CCTV images and police camera footage. Officers recovered jewellery, a car, a circular power saw and cash in Singapore dollars, euros and US dollars. Two members of the public gave key witness accounts and received certificates of appreciation from the police.
The three pleaded guilty to multiple charges including theft, housebreaking and concealing criminal benefits. On 22 October 2026, District Judge Ong Luan Tze sentenced Hernando to six years and eight months' jail, and Garcia and Garces to seven years and four months each. The judge called the case "an egregious example of housebreaking against residential properties at night," stressing that the lookout and getaway driver played an equally important role in the overall plan.
