SpaceX Falcon 9 lifts off with 27 Starlink satellites after three scrubs

· N GLOBE

The Starlink 15-15 mission launched from Vandenberg, California on the evening of Oct 23, with booster B1063 flying for a 36th time.

Why it matters

This was the fourth attempt at Starlink 15-15 — scrubbed on Oct 20 over a technical issue, on Oct 21 over bad weather, and on Oct 22 by a weather hold in the final seconds of the countdown. Booster B1063 is only the second SpaceX booster to reach 36 flights, another marker of how routine first-stage recovery has become.

Full report

The Falcon 9 lifted off at 22:48 UTC on Oct 23 (6:48 p.m. EDT) from Space Launch Complex 4E at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, carrying 27 Starlink v2-mini satellites on a southeasterly trajectory into low Earth orbit.

Roughly 8.5 minutes after liftoff, B1063 was due to land on the droneship Of Course I Still Love You stationed in the Pacific Ocean, just 52 days after its previous flight. Residents of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties may have heard sonic booms.

The flight is the 699th Falcon 9 mission, SpaceX's 732nd launch, and the 250th orbital launch attempt of 2026. SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell said this week that Starlink added 1.6 million customers in the third quarter and is now active in 174 markets.
