Switzerland’s Giotto launches sovereign AI family: Solo runs on one GPU, Alto free for all

Lausanne AI lab Giotto announced its Solo and Alto reasoning models on October 27, 2026, pitching efficient, user-controlled AI: Solo runs on a single GPU, flagship Alto is free to everyone, and cloud services do not depend on US cloud infrastructure.
Swiss AI lab Giotto, based in Lausanne, announced a new family of sovereign reasoning models on October 27, 2026: Giotto Solo and Giotto Alto. The company pitches the launch as making advanced AI public infrastructure that people and organizations can use on their own terms. Alto is available free to everyone, Solo is described as the smartest model to run on one GPU, and Giotto is also launching apps for iOS and Android alongside a free anonymous chat that needs no account.
Three ways to deploy
Users can choose three deployment options: shared cloud hosted in Europe; dedicated cloud in isolated environments at partner data centres in Switzerland or elsewhere in Europe; and on-premises installation on compatible hardware through partner integrators, from a one-GPU workstation for Solo to multi-GPU server racks for Alto. Alto, the flagship for demanding reasoning and enterprise workloads, runs on eight B300 GPUs.
Pricing follows the same user-control logic: shared cloud access is free, API access on the shared cloud uses a flat fee for all-you-can-use requests limited to one concurrent request at a time, with token packages for multi-concurrency; dedicated cloud instances start at one GPU and are rented monthly including the software licence; on-premises deployments are licensed annually or over multiple years based on the number and type of GPUs. The company says its cloud services are GDPR-aligned and do not depend on US cloud infrastructure.
Efficiency pitch and track record
Giotto was founded in Lausanne in 2017 by EPFL mathematics alumni and has worked on machine-learning interpretability, language models and reasoning systems. In the ARC-AGI competitions, its results placed 11th in 2024 and second in 2025 among roughly 1,500 teams. CEO and co-founder Aldo Podestà said Europe must offer more than a different flag on the same dependency, arguing that when intelligence requires infrastructure only a handful of companies can afford, control remains a privilege of scale, and better engineering can change who holds that power.
