The NSW Government reached an early-exit agreement with the Greyhound Breeders, Owners and Trainers Association (GBOTA), cutting short a lease that was due to run until September 2027; organisers expect a sellout crowd, and the meeting is being broadcast live free-to-air nationally on 7Plus and Racing.com. Under plans announced by the state government today, the 3.3-hectare site will have its racing infrastructure and grandstand removed and then be transferred to the City of Sydney for multipurpose sporting facilities and public open space, supporting plans for up to 2,500 additional homes nearby — about 7,300 new homes across Ultimo-Pyrmont when combined with the former Sydney Fish Market precinct. Preliminary works are expected to begin before Christmas; grandstand removal remains subject to detailed planning approvals. The sport is not leaving Sydney: Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) announced on Tuesday that, after assessing 12 Western Sydney sites with Deloitte, the existing Richmond Club site has been selected as the new Sydney Metropolitan Racing Precinct, with a development option to be confirmed in early 2027.
