Toronto Voters Back Bold Change at City Hall, Poll Finds

· N GLOBE

A new Build Canada poll shows 67% of Torontonians want the next mayor and council to try new ideas even if some fail; over half have seriously considered leaving the city in the past year.

What happened

Advocacy group Build Canada released a poll on Oct 19 showing broad Torontonian dissatisfaction with City Hall: 67% say the next mayor and council should try new ideas "even if some of them fail"; 60% say Toronto needs a major change in direction.

Why it matters

The numbers reveal deep anxiety: 55% say the city makes important decisions too slowly; 61% say residents get poor value for their property taxes and fees; 81% doubt a young person starting out today can afford to build a good life in the city; and over half have seriously considered moving out of Toronto in the past year.

Full report

The poll lands in the middle of Toronto's municipal election month. More than 50 candidates are running for mayor, with the race seen as largely between incumbent Olivia Chow and councillor Brad Bradford; affordability, housing and basic services top voters' priorities.
