Canada Post ends door-to-door delivery for 18,000 Etobicoke homes on Nov. 16

Canada Post confirmed that from November 16, about 18,000 homes in Etobicoke, Toronto, will lose door-to-door mail delivery and switch to locked community mailboxes, covering postal codes M9V and M9W — the first Greater Toronto stop in a five-year national conversion.
Canada Post confirmed that from November 16, about 18,000 homes in Etobicoke, Toronto, will stop receiving mail at their front doors and will instead collect it from shared, locked community mailboxes, covering postal codes M9V and M9W. It is the first Greater Toronto stop in a five-year national plan to phase out door-to-door delivery.
Four million addresses over five years
Under the plan Canada Post announced in April, roughly four million addresses that still receive door-to-door delivery will be converted to community mailboxes over about five years. The first national wave covers about 136,000 addresses in 13 communities. After Etobicoke, Ajax, Pickering, Mississauga and Brampton follow between September and November 2027, while most of downtown Toronto, parts of North York and Orangeville are scheduled among the final areas in September 2031.
Cost and accommodations
Canada Post's 2025 annual report puts door delivery at about $284 per address per year, compared with $162 for a community mailbox. The corporation says seniors and people with disabilities who need assistance may qualify for personalized delivery accommodations. Toronto's Ward 1 council office moved a motion asking Canada Post to pause the conversion in Etobicoke North until a support plan is worked out with the city.
Residents can check their conversion date by matching the first three characters of their postal code to Canada Post's schedule; the corporation says it will notify households ahead of any change and consult communities on mailbox locations.
