Former MP Chris Alexander withdraws from Toronto mayoral race

Former Conservative MP and ex-immigration minister Chris Alexander withdrew from the Toronto mayoral race on Oct. 6, less than three weeks before voting day, polling at about 7% against Olivia Chow and Brad Bradford.
Why it matters
Alexander's exit, less than three weeks before voting day, narrows a race that recent polling shows is effectively a two-way contest between incumbent Olivia Chow (~38%) and councillor Brad Bradford (~32%). Alexander, at roughly 7% support, was not expected to win, but his departure frees his supporters and donor network — a factor that could still move the final margins.
