Islanders beat Maple Leafs 4-1 in Toronto as Sorokin makes 28 saves

The New York Islanders won 4-1 at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday, with goals from Anthony Duclair, Bo Horvat and Simon Holmstrom (two) and 28 saves from Ilya Sorokin. Toronto has lost three straight.
Why it matters
Toronto fell 4-1 to the Islanders at home, its third straight loss (3-4-2), with just one win in the past five games. Without the injured John Tavares (week to week, lower body), the Leafs' offence went quiet again.
Full report
On Saturday night, Anthony Duclair opened the scoring at 8:18 of the first period and Bo Horvat buried a rebound late in the second for a 2-0 Islanders lead. Colton Sissons cut the deficit early in the third, but Simon Holmstrom answered and later sealed the 4-1 final into an empty net.
Ilya Sorokin stopped 28 of 29 shots for the Islanders; Sergei Bobrovsky made just 16 saves on 19 shots for Toronto. The Leafs outshot New York 29-20 but went 0-for-3 on the power play.
The Islanders played most of the game with only ten forwards after Calum Ritchie and Matias Maccelli were injured in the first period; Maccelli hurt his left knee when tripped by Darren Raddysh. Head coach Pete DeBoer called it "a gutsy, gritty road win."
No. 1 pick Gavin McKenna, benched for the final 32:54 of Thursday's overtime loss to Buffalo by coach Jim Hiller, was promoted to the top power-play unit alongside Auston Matthews and William Nylander.
The Islanders improved to 4-3-1.
