Toronto Public Health said in a news release on Oct. 5, 2026, that 14 cases of mpox have been confirmed in Toronto since September, indicating increased activity of the virus in the city. Wastewater surveillance by the Public Health Agency of Canada continues to detect mpox as well.
Officials stress the overall risk to the general public remains low. Mpox spreads mainly through close contact, and gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men remain the most affected group.
