Toronto poll: 64% say mayor and council are 'out of touch,' but 56% still rate mayor's job positively

A Canada Pulse Insights poll for CityNews finds nearly two-thirds of Torontonians think the mayor and council are out of touch, yet majorities still rate the mayor, their councillor and council positively; affordability tops election issues at 43%.

With less than three weeks to the October 26 municipal election, the poll captures a contradictory voter mood: 64% of Torontonians say the mayor and city council are "out of touch" with residents' wants and needs, while 56% say the mayor is doing a good job, 64% rate their own councillor positively and 55% rate council overall as doing a good job.

The Canada Pulse Insights poll for CityNews surveyed 510 adult Toronto residents from September 14 to 24, 2026, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
On the city's direction, 54% said Toronto is "off on the wrong track" while 46% said it is headed in the right direction. The divide is stark: 71% of Olivia Chow supporters say the city is on the right track, versus only 21% of Brad Bradford supporters.
Top election issues: affordability and cost of living (43%), crime, policing and public safety (29%), and traffic congestion and road infrastructure (25%). Advance voting runs October 6–11; election day is October 26.
