Why it matters

The City of Toronto issued its official election-day reminder today (Oct. 22): voting day for the 2026 municipal election is Monday, Oct. 26. More than 1,350 voting locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and about 2.14 million eligible voters will choose the mayor, city councillors and school trustees.

Full report

Voters must go to the voting location assigned on their Voter Information Card; the city suggests voting between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to avoid peak crowds. Anyone in line by 8 p.m. will still be able to vote.

To be eligible, you must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old, a Toronto resident (or own or rent property in Toronto, as does your spouse), and not prohibited by law from voting; one ballot per person, in your ward of residence. Bring one acceptable piece of ID showing your name and a Toronto address — it does not need a photo. Each ward has two Voter Assist Terminals for voters with disabilities.

Fifty-three candidates are running for mayor, 190 for city council and 118 for school trustee. Unofficial results will be announced on election night, combining advance, mail-in and election-day ballots.
