Leah Jeruto won the women's race in a personal-best 2:21:19; Windsor's Dayna Pidhoresky took the Canadian women's title in 2:26:08. The race doubled as Athletics Canada's national marathon championships.

Why it matters

Kenya's Leonard Langat defended his title Sunday at the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon, winning the men's race in 2 hours 6 minutes 51 seconds to claim the CAD$25,000 prize. The race was a World Athletics Elite Label event and also served as Athletics Canada's national marathon championships.

Kenya also swept the women's race: Leah Jeruto ran a massive personal best of 2:21:19 to win — three minutes faster than her 2:24:31 at this year's Cape Town Marathon in May — ahead of Ethiopians Nigsti Haftu (2:21:34) and Ayinadis Teshome (2:22:51).

The Canadian women's title went to Dayna Pidhoresky of Windsor, Ont., who finished eighth overall in a personal-best 2:26:08, capturing her second national title and first since 2019. Florence Caron of La Malbaie, Que., was 10th in 2:29:32.

Canadians swept the half marathons: Dylan Alick of Mississauga, Ont., won the men's race in 1:03:49 while Teagan Robertson of Kingston, Ont., topped the women's event in 1:13:58.
