Toronto Waterfront Marathon prompts major road closures this weekend

The TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon runs this weekend: a 5K today and the marathon and half marathon on Sunday, with major downtown and east-end streets closed Sunday.
Why it matters
The TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon takes over the city this weekend: the 5K ran today (Saturday, October 17) at Nathan Phillips Square, while the marathon and half marathon start Sunday (October 18) from Yonge Street north of Gerrard. Tens of thousands of runners are expected Sunday, and Toronto police and the city are closing major streets along the route — drivers should reroute or take transit.
Full report
Sunday's course runs through the downtown core, the waterfront and the eastern Beaches neighbourhoods before finishing back at Nathan Phillips Square. The marathon course stays open until 3:30 p.m.; the half marathon closes at 1 p.m.
