Covenant House Toronto's Ipsos poll, released ahead of the Oct. 26 municipal election, finds Toronto voters overwhelmingly support making youth homelessness a priority for the next mayor and council. Nearly nine in ten residents are concerned about youth homelessness in their communities.

Why it matters

Ahead of the Oct. 26 Toronto municipal election, youth charity Covenant House Toronto released a new Ipsos survey: voters overwhelmingly support making youth homelessness a top priority for the next mayor and city council. The survey interviewed 1,000 voting-age Toronto residents.

The numbers

84% of respondents want the root causes of youth homelessness addressed; 85% want help for young people to secure stable housing; 88% say youth-specific strategies are needed; nearly nine in ten residents are concerned about youth homelessness in their communities; and 66% say they would vote on this issue.

Covenant House Toronto says more than nine in ten Toronto residents support the city's youth homelessness strategy, and is calling on the next council to put the issue at the top of its agenda.
