Anthropic draft IPO filing reportedly shows $80.7B first-half loss, up to $750B in future compute costs

· N GLOBE

A draft IPO prospectus shows Anthropic's $80.7B first-half loss, about $72B from revaluation of bonds and instruments, and future compute commitments that could reach $750B.

Why it matters

The draft filing reveals the financial reality of the AI arms race: to stay competitive, Anthropic is signing multi-year, largely non-cancellable cloud and chip contracts worth hundreds of billions of dollars — a scale big enough to reshape global semiconductor demand.

Full report

According to multiple outlets citing Anthropic's draft IPO prospectus, the company posted an $80.7 billion loss in the first half of 2026, with about $72 billion coming from a non-cash revaluation of bonds and other financial instruments. Anthropic filed a confidential registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on June 1.

The future compute figures are even larger: confirmed commitments approach $600 billion, potentially reaching $750 billion once arrangements still under negotiation are included. An earlier draft mentioned at least $518 billion in AI infrastructure commitments over about a decade with six partners, roughly four-fifths of it non-cancellable.

Details include a 10-year Amazon Web Services commitment exceeding $100 billion covering up to five gigawatts of compute; a Google-Broadcom arrangement expected to bring multiple gigawatts of chip capacity online starting in 2027; and an AMD deal covering up to two gigawatts of GPU capacity, with the first gigawatt scheduled for deployment in the first half of 2027.

Also on October 21: Anthropic announced it will place 5% of its equity into a public-benefit fund to address AI's impact on jobs, with the share rising as the company's valuation grows; separately, OpenAI was reported to be accelerating a roughly $30 billion fundraising round ahead of Anthropic's IPO.
