Dallas police say three shootings in the Deep Ellum nightlife district east of downtown in the early hours of Sunday, November 1, left four people dead and about 15 others injured. Police Chief Daniel Comeaux told a Sunday morning news conference that all three incidents were in Deep Ellum, within about half a mile of one another; police have not found a connection between them and the investigation is continuing.
Three shootings within about an hour; injury count still moving
According to a Dallas police news release citing the preliminary investigation, the first shooting happened around 12:20 a.m., the second shortly after 1 a.m. and the third about half an hour later. Comeaux said the total number of injured was still moving a little, as some people transported themselves for medical care. Several live music venues in the area had advertised Halloween events that night, and police had increased staffing in anticipation of Halloween crowds; no officers were injured, and one officer successfully performed lifesaving measures on an injured person.
Multiple people arrested and questioned; public asked for photos and video
Comeaux said multiple people have been arrested and are being questioned as police work to identify the shooters, although their possible connection to the shootings is unclear. Police have not released the victims' identities or the conditions of the injured. City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert said in a statement that the city's thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, and that more information will be shared as it becomes available. Police are asking the public for photos and videos from the area. The incidents came roughly six months after a pair of overnight shootings within a block of each other in Deep Ellum left a 26-year-old security officer dead and five others injured, according to CNN affiliate KTVT.
