Raccoons steal the show! GMA weather anchor meets a raccoon gang digging for food before live hit in Los Angeles

Good Morning America chief meteorologist Ginger Zee had a surprise wildlife encounter before her live report on Thursday (November 5): a group of raccoons roaming around the ABC News Los Angeles bureau, digging holes as the crew set up its filming location. Zee filmed the animals and posted the video on Instagram, joking that the raccoons just wanted to appear on camera. (Photo: file photo of a raccoon.)
Wildlife is a regular at 3 a.m. shoots
According to TV Insider, Zee was reporting live from the ABC News Los Angeles bureau during Thursday's episode when the raccoons appeared. "I'm like [the] Robert Irwin of KABC," she joked in the video. She said that when the crew is out at 3 a.m. filming promos on the West Coast, "we often get to see wildlife. It's like a zoo. Last time we were here, there was a coyote."
In the video, the raccoons dig in the ground. "They're digging. They're digging holes, like, deep holes. You notice that?" Zee said, as someone suggested they were digging for worms to eat. The video ended with two raccoons seemingly squaring up for a fight. "'Don't get my worm,' he said," she quipped. Fans reacted with amusement in the comments: "They want their 2 minutes of fame," one wrote, while another said they were "cute and scary at the same time."
In Los Angeles for a Walk of Fame ceremony
Zee was in Los Angeles to attend the joint Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony for GMA co-anchors Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos later that day, hosted by Michael Strahan. The two received side-by-side stars on Thursday afternoon, with Michael J. Fox speaking on George's behalf and Niecy Nash speaking on Robin's behalf.
