Meta acquires AI coding startup Conductor; cloud service to shut down November 20

Meta confirmed its acquisition of AI coding startup Conductor, whose team will join Meta Superintelligence Labs; Conductor Cloud becomes read-only on November 13 and shuts down on November 20, when cloud data deletion begins.
Meta on November 4 confirmed it is acquiring Conductor, an AI coding startup that lets engineers run several AI coding agents in parallel. Founder and CEO Charlie Holtz announced the same day on the company's blog that "Conductor is joining Meta." Financial terms were not disclosed, and Meta declined to comment further. Axios first reported the deal, and TechCrunch confirmed it with Meta. (Photo: file photo.)
Several AI agents coding in parallel
Founded in 2024, Conductor launched its core product in the summer of 2025. It lets software engineers split a project across multiple AI coding agents, each working in its own isolated workspace on a different part of the project at the same time. The platform does not build its own models; the agents it orchestrates come from major labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI, with Conductor providing the coordination layer. After the deal, the team will join Meta Superintelligence Labs, working with chief AI officer Alexandr Wang and product head Nat Friedman.
Cloud service shuts down November 20; users must move their data
For existing users, the transition has a firm timetable: Conductor Cloud becomes read-only on November 13, when users can no longer send new messages, and shuts down on November 20, after which the company will begin deleting cloud user data. The company said its core features will keep working as before until early 2027, and the local desktop app will be supported until early 2027, with something new promised for early next year. New user sign-ups and app downloads stopped on the day the deal was announced.
Same-day move as OpenAI as labs race for coding tools
Notably, OpenAI announced on the same day that it will acquire developer-tools startup Pierre Computer, a deal this site has already covered. The two labs moved on the same day, and the contest is no longer only over models but over the tools that manage coding agents. Meta launched its own coding agent, Muse Code, in August and says its Muse agents have more than 10 million users. Conductor should strengthen Meta's hand in multi-agent coding.
