Micron teams up with Indium on critical minerals processing in New York

Micron will invest with New York-based Indium Corporation in critical mineral processing in Oneida County, expanding the US semiconductor supply chain and reducing reliance on foreign sources.
Why it matters
Micron Technology has announced a partnership with New York-based manufacturer Indium Corporation to invest in critical mineral processing in Oneida County, bringing another link of the semiconductor supply chain back to the United States. Senator Chuck Schumer said the move is exactly the follow-on effect the CHIPS and Science Act was meant to deliver after landing Micron's historic investment in New York: more jobs, more investment, and less reliance on foreign sources of critical minerals.
Full report
According to the announcement published October 20, the collaboration will expand domestic processing capacity for the critical minerals the chip industry needs. Micron is building a major chip fabrication plant in Clay, Onondaga County, while Indium Corporation is a New York manufacturer with more than 90 years of history.
Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said foundations are going in at the Clay site, thousands of workers are headed there, and the planned supply chain is now starting to follow. Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. said the partnership strengthens regional cooperation between the two counties and benefits all of Central New York and the Mohawk Valley.
